What does this have to do with photography? Nothing really, except to say free is where it’s at. Speaking as someone who’s spent the last twenty years as an engineer in the semiconductor industry, it’s been amazing to watch things change, and change so fast. What seemed so complicated to conceive and build just ten years ago, is deemed simple today. Free indeed.
I just wanted to pimp for a new Houston band I just came across through a friend, The Literary Greats. Great band and great music as far as I’m concerned. They say their sound is Alternative Americana. I guess that’s about right.
They recently released their debut CD, aptly named The Literary Greats, and I love it. I can’t say enough good things about it. Mature, sophisticated, and understated all at once. Not to mention catchy. Standout tracks include Clock Radios, Devotion, and Listen to the Band, with absolutely gorgeous piano.
2000 miles and 10 pounds and finally I’m back. As obvious by the dearth of posts, I spent the Christmas holiday away from the computer. Instead, I spent it travelling back and forth from Houston, Texas to Cleveland, Ohio crammed in a minivan with a wife, 2 kids, and a Labrador retriever. Let’s just say that’s not the way to peacefully pass the time.
Christmas was good. My son now has more toys than Paul Allen. And even though I just discovered I’m 10 pounds heavier, I am in good spirits and refreshed. I want to take pictures. I want to print. I want to spend a year focused on photography. I’ve already made a to-do list and set self-imposed deadlines for various projects. Now all that’s left is to follow through with that ambition and focus and not let it slip away.
Great. Just what this world needs. Another useless blog that nobody reads.
But I guess you’ve got to start somewhere and this seems to be as good a place as any. And seeing as my esteemed blog host WordPress took the liberty of titling my very first blog post, I figured I’d extend a debt of gratitude by sticking to that title. I guess if it’s good enough for Tiger Woods at the start of his professional golfing career, it should be good enough for me to start of this blog.
Somehow though, I doubt I’ll parlay this blog into more than a billion dollars of lifetime earnings. But really, what can you do?
I guess there is always hope, and as Dan Bern so aptly sings, sometimes I wish I was Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods…
